Polycarbonate is a rigid, clear material with a very high impact strength (250x stronger than glass!) making it ideal for security and anti-vandal situations where glass or acrylic could be broken. Polycarbonate has very good insulation, weather resisting and UV properties as well as having a class 1 fire rating. |

Polycarbonate is perfect for public areas such as bus shelters, halls and outbuildings that are prone to vandalism. It is also a legal requirement in many cases to use polycarbonate for machine guards, visors and in areas that need a class 1 fire rating such as theatres and public buildings. |

As you can see from the bus shelter on the right polycarbonate is also suitable for cold forming. Because of the strength of polycarbonate the material can physically be pulled into position and held by a frame or by mechanical fasteners. For items such as the motorcycle screen and visor on the left the material is usually moulded to make the material hold its shape even when removed. |

Please note, although polycarbonate is incredibly resiliant to attack certain factors weaken it considerably. When cutting polycarbonate all edges and holes must be de-burred and smooth. Nicks and notches on edge cuts can create a weak point. Polycarbonate can also be weakened by many chemicals including solvents and alkalis. If you intend to use polycarbonate in a situation where it will come into contact with chemicals consider using PVC or PETG which both have superior resistance to chemicals. PETG also has virtually the same impact strength and clarity of polycarbonate making it an ideal alternative. |
