TENSOL 12

Made by Bostik Ltd, Tensol 12 adhesive is excellent for edge bonding of acrylic sheet. Tensol 12 offers good resistance to stress crazing, even on line-bent sections, and high clarity, bubble-free bonds. Filled systems (ie. thicker glues) such as Tensol 12 offer better gap filling properties than Dichloromethane based glues (see below, Extrufix) which have a more water-like consistency and are applied in a different manner. Tensol 12 is only suitable for internal applications.

EXTRUFIX

Extrufix is an alternative adhaesive for edge bonding acrylics. Unlike Tensol 70 which is fairly viscous, Extrufix is very runny and is applied after the pieces are secured in position. Extrufix works by capillary action, sucking itself into the joint. Excess adhesive simply evaporates.

Extrufix, as the name suggests, is also suitable for extruded materials unlike Tensol 12 and Tensol 70 which can cause stress crazing, especially on line-bent pieces. Like Tensol 12, Extrufix is also only suitable for internal applications.

TENSOL 70

For face-to-face bonding, or lamination as it is better known, Tensol 70 is perfect.
A 2-part, solvent-free, clear adhesive which produces a strong, clear bond that is durable in external applications. Excellent gap filling properties mean that a water-tight join can be created with the right technique.

SEALANTS

The only sealants suitable for acrylics, and plastics in general, are Low-modulus, neutral cure variants. These types of silicone will minimise stress crazing and will accomodate any movement between components without breaking away.
